There is something I am SO e x c i t e d to share with you today. It’s about you sharing your voice, creativity, writing, art…with the rest of us. Please be sure to read to the bottom to see what I’ve been brewing up for all you creative folks who are curious about publishing on a platform designed for writers and creators.
But first, a little poem medicine to soothe the shakiness that can rise in times of change. The last few months haven’t been comfortable ones in my world. I’ve been hanging out in the in-between place where What Was no longer is and What’s To Come isn’t yet clear. You know the zone.
As much as I’m about growth I actually love stability, relish routine, and get cravings for good old-fashioned certainty. I’d like for periods of transition to be brief punctuation marks between long sentences of steadiness. But life has a tendency to unfold in the reverse ratio. Even when things appear status quo we often find ourselves in a season of change or passage of some sort.
In fact, there’s a lot of life that unfolds in liminal space. The periods of in-between. I don’t know about you, but for me it takes some real practice to resist trying to fast-forward through the discomfort of the unknown. Which is why digging up this poem from a few years back was good medicine for me this week. I wondered if it might hit the spot for you too…
I believe poetry is a song that is meant to be heard as well as read. A poem is a journey for the senses, not just the mind. I invite you to sit back and listen:
Do Not Rush In the tumult of transition tumbling, stumbling, bumping through big change— of place, context, connection routines are rocked identities loosened shaking us out of our grooves and into the new; into possibility. Unfamiliarity is inconvenient. Uncomfortable. But do not rush too soon into the relief of what you know. Here in the unknown— the betwixt and between, treasure waits to be discovered. The universe is ready to rearrange itself around your true desire unfurling brightly from a more naked, shining you. —Kai Madrone July 23, 2020
Now, let’s talk about what YOU create
Do you write? Make art? Have things on your heart you’d like to share with people? Do you feel your creativity calling you to take it seriously and show up for what wants to come through? Are you writing a book or creating other work that you want to build an audience for? Curious about podcasting? Or building a community online? Have you thought about starting a blog or newsletter but not gotten around to it yet?
If so, I’ve been preparing something for you. It’s a class for creative humans who are curious about publishing on Substack. This is for anyone who wants to take the leap and start publishing their writing/art/work and is curious about Substack. I’m SO EXCITED ABOUT THIS!! The class is called Something Inside You.
How you know it’s time
After 20 years of thinking I would get around to sharing my writing "someday" (when I had something more worth saying, when I was financially solid, when I had more time, when my ex was happy, when it felt right to approach publishers, when my craft was more honed…) last fall my soul insisted NOW. The "yeah buts" were still present but the inner voice became unavoidable.
There comes a point when despite the resistance you know you just have to do the thing. So I asked my brilliant friend and expert on online ecosystems, Karna Liv Nau, what she recommended for platforms. She was 100% clear: Substack. So I created The New Story and hit "publish." AND I'VE BEEN HAVING SUCH A GOOD TIME here ever since!
My wish for you
Perhaps you can relate to the yeah-buts and soul-tugging? Here's what I want you to know:
We need what lives inside you. I want to support and empower you to share your gifts and creativity with the rest of us because I deeply believe that this matters.
I'd love to see you basking in the joy of sharing what's inside you, connecting with folks who want to receive it, and growing a community of people who care about what you're doing.
I'm having so much fun geeking out about Substack because this ecosystem/tool/platform makes all of this so easy. It's designed for people like us—creators who want to focus on creating, not on the tech and algorithms and such.
And I have have nearly 20 years experience helping folks find their voice and share their art and/or work with the world.
This is a two hour class, online, just $30. I have a lot to share and I’m excited to set you up to move forward with publishing online but more than anything I’m offering this for the sheer FUN of it. If this resonates at all, I’d love to have you. We meet October 10th. Check out the details below and don’t hesitate to email me if you have any questions.
Ohh, how I love all of this! I’m so excited for you, and with you, I feel your fire and I love how it buzzes with excitement and creativity and joy and love for what you do. AND, I so second what you write about this combination of loving growth and loving stability, I’m feeling this so much myself. Thank you for putting such beautiful words to it. 🤍
